My major ROCKS!!!

It's truly amazing to see people with your same passion, knowledge, and ability to be doing well! After taking my Senior Seminar class, this pass Fall semester, I met a lot of great business women. That literally mirrored their audience. I.E. sitting in the same classrooms rooms as me, stressing over the same finals as me, and taking advice from the same professors as me. A great majority of the speakers were alumna of Sam Houston State University's Fashion Merchandising Program. I can't even describe how exciting the feeling was to actually hear someone speak, and share their life experiences. Knowing you'll have to take the same avenues, or roads similar. The speakers ranged from Business Owners to Buyers, to High School teachers. But the one person that didn't speak out, is the person I'm most impressed with. As you may/may not know, owning your own business can be very stressful, complicated, yet rewarding sometimes. Depending on circumstances and knowledge for your goods/service. Her name is Gina Garza, part owner of the Haute Boutique in Huntsville,TX. Now I do not know to much about Ms. Garza, only that she is a graduate of the program. But what I would like to share is the article mentioned on our School's website about her partnership boutique. Pretty cool story.... Local Boutique, SHSU Alumna Win Preservation Award

Fall '11 Shoot

This was an amazing experience for me. After styling friends and family for over six years, styling for Fashion Shows, and coordinating a Fashion Show, my chance had finally come! Styling for a shoot was one of the most blissful things I've ever done. I plan to do more in the near future.

Tell Me More.... The Airborne Interview

Anthony Williams better known as his stage name "Airborne," is a up and coming rapper from Houston, Texas, now relocated in DC. Luckily for me, I had the pleasure of having a Drama class with him my senior year, and we've been in touch ever since. His cool laid back style transfer over into his music. Airborne is here people! Give him a listen...

When did you write your first verse?
“I wrote my first rhyme in 5th grade. I was at lunch, where there's
usually a lot going on and if people were laughing, I was always
involved in some type of way. One day everything just kind of slowed
down around me and I sat at the table and started writing. Till this day
I do not know what made me do it, but it just felt right. I've been
doing it ever since.”

What made you put everything (blood, sweat, tears, sleep, and time) into your music?
“Once I really saw that my rhymes could influence and entertain people, I knew I had to pursue rapping. Going after music, especially in this day and age where every other person is rapping, it’s a gamble and can get frustrating. So coming up with bars isn't work at all, its
fun. That's all I really want out of life… making a living out of God
giving fun!”

Who's your audience? And what do you want them to feel when they listen?
“My audience is anyone who enjoys hearing real raps! From the fly-est of the fly, to the average Joe just trying to make it. I can relate to them all. I just want them to be able to escape in my music. I'm no savior, I'm not here to "bring hip hop back" *chuckles! I
just prefer putting words together and twisting the english like a
perfect joint. Lighting it over a perfect beat, taking you on a lyrical
flight! Keeping ya head nodding and ya days awesome…word to the
homie XV.”

What next for Airborne?
“Next up for me is more music! Finally giving people visuals to the
ideas I come up with in my head. My next project, (not sure if it'll be
a Mixtape EP or an album), will be entitled "Dopeman Attire". On this
venture, I found myself reminiscing on growing up in the Briargate
townhomes in Missouri City, Texas. Where my friends and I were just bored kids who liked doing bad and stupid shit. I.E. driving grocery baskets into the swimming pool, stealing gumball machines and just about everything in WalMart, selling Reggie in skinny jeans... haha. Harm wasn’t the motive, we were just living. I was always the innocent fly-guy who rapped and read comicbooks. One day I'm going to put out a collection of songs and videos, taking y’all on a ride through the South Side of Houston, with the good rapper who was cool enough to kick it with the goons and popular girls, and finding success with my favorite hobby.”

Where would you like to be in 5 years?
“Honestly, I just want to be comfortable making music for a living. I don't have to be a big superstar on BET and MTV. But if I can hold down a crib and a few old-school cars; while copping some Air Maxes and BBC Icecream’s with no worries at all, I'm a happy camper.”

Was there a difference in transaction from Houston to DC? Are fans more responsive?
“Sure was, but I embraced it. I moved out here to see something new
that'll inspire me to come up with better rhymes and songs. I felt
like my subject matter was getting bland; yet living out here for six
months I've definitely found more things to rap about and newer ways to approach beats. As far as the fanbase goes, I'm getting ready to introduce myself to one. I have a few supporters who I
dearly appreciate, but I'm still very unknown. I had great feedback
from my Mixtape, MindPodShuffle released in January. But when I did my
double release on October 18th, even some of my closest friends didn't
know about it *chuckles. Shows me I got to give people more consistency and of what I'm doing out here. Still holding it DINE for Houston(knomsaying).”

In closing, what would you like to say to your audience?
“I just want to say thank you who've supported my music from day one...or whatever day you started listening. And to the folks who haven't heard me yet, just sit back and chill with me while I kick some timeless rhymes to you! I'm just telling you who I am hoping to relate to ya, but if not, I’ll still thank you for your time. Peace & Prosperity.”

Well done Mr. West.

From hot beats to runway seats the creative mastermind is making a major statement once again! Come October 1, 2011, at Paris Fashion Week, Mr. West will showcase his Woman's Collection for the first time. And to add to the excitement the line is following Jean Paul Gauliter. His nonchalant attitude made his fans LOVE him, and chic style made fashion heads applaud him. Unfortunately some details are still unknown, but a lot of hype has surrounded the topic. The collection has actually been rumored for quite sometime, luckily Ye can finally put it to rest.

WHY-RED? Whyred? WHYRED? There back.

What exactly is Whyred you ask? A Swedish Clothing Label. After a 10 year absence, founders Roland Hjort, Lena Patriksson and Jonas Clason are back at it again! The collection is exclusively available at UO stores. Styles consist of loose, masculine, and well fitted garments. The price range is best described as better and is now called the 'indie super label'- UO site. I must say the items are fab, it's such a shame they've been gone for a decade.

Here's a peek of inspiration missed.

Veiled Woman

I keep to myself, and mind my own.
I speak wise shit, for my flavor of words always burns in disgue.
I don't need spotlight or fame just A listening ear in vain.
My thoughts are the realest with no shame, that's why I have life to blame. Thoughts of sorrow and pain keep the quiet woman "sane."
But you see I wish my mind could take pictures, cause even with paper I can't think of 100 words.
Too bad there's too many glitches.........
So no one see's me, therefore I'm unheard of.
That's fine, just address me when I'm good enough.

The September Issue

DISCLAIMER: Although September is almost over, weather is changing for the better (Cold-Temps), and you readers should be aware of something that can change the way you shop................

As a savvy fashionista/fashionisto, most are aware of the "BIBLE" sized editions of apparel magazines for the month of September. This fashion guide is filled with Fall's DO's and DONT's of that current year. Now you ask, "What's the benefit of reading The Semptember's Issue?" Glad you asked... The benefit loves, is simple a upper-hand on the other consumers. These magazines such as [Vogue], Elle, Marie Claire, and [Harper's Bazaar] etc.; illustrate the exact fall trends. Not only will it have several page-long spreads of the trends, but ways to style it, and inspiration for make-up and hair. You can't beat that! So now, when entering your local retailers you'll grab the "HOT" buy, instead of things you do not need or for that matter want. Now admit it there has been those few times we have all bought something and its currently pushed to the back of our closets. Sad case! Stop yourself from becoming a future hoarder (LOL), and read Fashion Magazines. I promise that will not bite you! They will do nothing but flatter and enhance your style.

The Jane Black Interview

Phone Conversation was placed on Tuesday September 21, 2010 12:25-12:43pm with Jane Black, noted Fashion Stylist in Los Angeles, California.

Amanda: When did you decide that styling was your niche?
Jane: "After working for E! Entertainment, as a Fashion Producer I met a lot of celebrities and built client tell. Which led to six years of freelance style. After six years passed I had established myself to where I am now."

Amanda: What internships or former jobs did you endure that related to your current career?
Jane: "Starting a Fashion Modeling career at 16yrs old, seeing the world, and witnessing fashion evolve, it helped me most than ever. "

Amanda: How did you promote your brand, when you first started?
Jane: "I didn’t, it just kind of happened. With the help of E! Entertainment and my established client tell, I made a website for the brand to promote itself."

Amanda: Did you reach out to other stylist and photographers for help?
Jane: "Yes, I emailed them on set, off set, and whenever I can squeeze in time. This business is all about networking and how you present yourself; so during a shoot you can meet up to ten people. With those ten people introduce, yourself to each one: the other stylist, the make-up artist, the photo director, etc. Meet them all and get their cards. Follow up with them for future jobs. "

Amanda: What books did you read in regards to starting your career?
Jane: "History of Costume (text), several Fashion Magazines, and News articles focusing on styling."

Amanda: If faced with any challenges, how did you cope? And what inspired you to keep going?
Jane: "2008, was absolutely the hardest year for me. The economic hit everyone hard, and ruin a lot of careers. On a better note, that was the same year I had a baby, and it gave me ample time to take off, and come back stronger for the next year. Luckily my business has steadily picked back up; unfortunately for some of my friends they got second jobs."

Amanda: What motivates your style and spirit every day?
Jane: "Fashion has always been that thing in life that expresses my emotions, style, and being. Like I mentioned, fashion is always changing and evolving. With shows every six months, shopping for clients, and keeping watch on up and coming designer; my mind was never go black, and I will never have a void. My love for fashion will do nothing but grow."

Amanda: What is your next step?
Jane: "To have bigger and better clients, and to make MORE money."

Amanda: Do you see your brand expanding?
Jane: "A few years down the line. Maybe having a larger studio. I will have to wait and see what else is new."

Amanda: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Jane: "Ummmm....Working with corporate clients having an assistant. And as crazy as it sounds, being busier.

Side note from Jane Black:
"Amanda if you are or will have to take accounting, I highly advise you pay close attention in the class. By going into business yourself, you have to file your own taxes and it could be a hassle. On another note, have a serious plan after graduation. Know top PR companies, publicists, and intern for free if you have the opportunity. Those who have free internships are sometimes taken more seriously. This job is morning, noon, and night so you will ever love it or hate it. Also by assisting an up and coming stylist, you will learn what kind of stylist you want to become. Nice talking to you, contact me in the spring."

COLORS.......

Ignorance comes in any shape, COLOR, or age. N it's always the ugliest thing to encounter. It's never nice, but always right on time with an attitude. There to ruin your day, or spoil your mood! Ignorance isn't bliss, yet it is that COLOR of excitement when the unknowledgeable feels that they are...... Well knowledgeable. Keeping this is mind, remember one thing that COLOR of your words, are ten times louder than that on the ignorant.
